Why Sydney?

Sydney, otherwise known as the Harbour City, is the largest city in Australia by population and is home to some of the most beautiful beaches and coastline in the world. It offers a diverse range of industry/employment opportunities, a very manageable climate and an exceptional lifestyle with so many outdoor attractions.

History

The first people to inhabit the Sydney Region were indigenous Australians, otherwise known as Aboriginals. They migrated from Northern Australia and prior to that from Southeast Asia. Lieutenant James Cook landed in Botany Bay on the 29th April 1770.

Captain Philip led the First Fleet of 11 ships and about 850 convicts into Botany Bay on 18 January 1788, though apparently he deemed the location as being unsuitable due to a lack of fresh water. He then travelled north and arrived at Port Jackson (otherwise known as Sydney Harbour) on 26 January 1788. Phillip described Sydney Cove as being “without exception the finest harbour in the world”.

Climate

Sydney’s climate is categorised as subtropical, where the city experiences warm summers, cool winters and quite uniform rainfalls throughout all months of the year. The climate is conducive to an outdoor lifestyle as the weather doesn’t often get too hot or cold in the summer and winter months.
