Freshwater, formerly named Harbord and known locally as ‘Freshie’ is located 17 kilometres north-east of the Sydney CBD and located in between the headland of Queenscliff & Curl Curl beach. Buses are the sole form of transport or alternatively the Manly ferry can be reached by a short walk via Queenscliff headland to Manly.

Freshwater Beach is family friendly and a popular spot to learn to surf, the local Reserve is great for BBQ’s overlooking the tidal rock pool and a coastal path that stretches to Manly in the south and north to Curl Curl and beyond.

Freshwater is a bustling, surf lifestyle community with a local village vibe offering a collection of cafes, restaurants, boutique shops with a local pub called The Harbord Hilton, all situated within a level walk to one of the best, family surf beaches in Sydney.

Sitting on the headland is the infamous Harbord Diggers Club alongside a statue dedicated to ‘The Duke’ Paoa Kahanamoku famed for introducing surfing into the Australian culture.

Freshwater is evenly split between a mix of freestanding Californian bungalows, weatherboard houses or original 1970’s red brick homes and apartment blocks. The unique beach lifestyle and café culture attracts a local demographic of young families, investors and professionals who seek the closeness of the city but the beach and surf lifestyle

There are three schools located in Freshwater, Harbord Public School, St John the Baptist Catholic School and Freshwater Senior Campus which forms part of the Northern Beaches Secondary College along with the NBSC Balgowlah Boys and NBSC Mackellar Girls Campus. The Northern Beaches Hospital located in Frenchs Forest is a 20-minute drive away with a 40-minute bus ride to a selection of Sydney’s Universities in the CBD.
