Why North Wallsend?

Wallsend is a large and diverse suburb to the west of the City of Newcastle. It is located at the end of the Newcastle Link Rd which connects the city to the M1 Motorway, and also the Hunter Freeway to the Hunter Valley. There are also access roads to the Pacific Highway in the north and to Lake Macquarie in the south.

The older areas of Wallsend have a heritage relating back to Newcastle’s mining past, while newer residential areas such as Silveridge Estate contain large modern homes in a quiet bushland setting.

Employment hubs such as The University of Newcastle and John Hunter Hospital are an easy drive from Wallsend, so this suburb continues to have high demand from renters and home buyers alike. The large shopping area of Wallsend Village includes a Stockland Shopping Centre, while Wallsend Diggers is a popular entertainment spot. There are a number of large parks with a variety of sporting facilities.

Demographics

With a wide range of recreation options, the shopping centre and a number of local schools, Wallsend is popular with families and with first home buyers attracted to low-moderate home prices, compared with suburbs closer to the city. Dwellings in Wallsend are mostly free-standing houses, with very few apartment complexes. The workforce comprises mostly trade and blue collar workers.

Health, Education and Schooling

There are 4 primary schools in Wallsend and the Wallsend Campus of Callaghan College. Macquarie College is nearby, so families are well catered for. University of Newcastle is around 20 minutes’ drive. There are a number of medical centres in the commercial area, and John Hunter Hospital is 15 minutes by road.
