Islington NSW 2296
Why Islington?
Islington is one of Newcastle’s oldest inner city suburbs and has undergone significant gentrification in the last decade. Older homes have been stylishly renovated, with some new modern homes starting to appear. The majority of homes are freestanding dwellings and terraces or semis.
Islington is dominated by Islington Park – one of the ‘jewels in the crown’ of the inner-city suburbs. It is also very close to Throsby Creek with the cycleway leading around to the harbour. Hamilton Railway Station to the east provides transport to the CBD connecting to the Light Rail.
Demographics
Islington has become a young person’s destination, with the dominant age bracket of 20-39 years, while employment is evenly spread across professional, clerical and trade categories. It is popular with singles and couples, due to the proximity to the CBD and the inner-city music and entertainment scene.
Health, Education and Schooling
Although not dominated by families, local public schools are highly regarded. Major hospitals and the University of Newcastle Callaghan Campus are easily accessed via an efficient arterial road system, and the University NeW Space Campus in the city is a few minutes away by public transport.
