Why Oxley?

Oxley is a south-western suburb of Brisbane located 11 radial kilometres from the CBD.  Oxley was traditionally a working-class suburb due to its mix of residential and industrial uses, however, it has rapidly gentrified in recent years.  This is thanks to its proximity to the CBD and other major employment hubs, combined with its relative affordability compared to nearby prestige suburbs such as Corinda, Sherwood and Graceville.

Some of the low-laying parts of Oxley are prone to flooding from the nearby Brisbane River and local creeks, which are to be avoided. However, much of the flood prone land has been left undeveloped, meaning there are large expanses of parkland and greenspace scattered throughout the suburb for residents to enjoy.

Oxley’s has its own dedicated train station for easy commuting into the CBD, along with nearby access to both the Centenary and Ipswich motorways.  Oxley Station Road being the main street is host to numerous local café’s, small businesses, variety stores and a large retailers.  The suburb also has a secondary shopping precinct which is home to Harvey Norman, Bunnings, The Good Guys and Officeworks.

Demographics

According to recent census data, the most prominent household composition in Oxley is couples aged between 20 – 39 with children.  This is reflective of the ongoing gentrification the area has seen in recent years and is a trend we expect will continue into the future.

Health, Education and Schooling

Oxley State School is the local school catering to primary aged children, with St Joseph’s Catholic Primary in nearby Corinda.  There are no secondary schools in Oxley, however it does have easy access to Glenala State High School, Corinda State High School and also the prestigious St Aidan’s Anglican Girl’s School.  Canossa Private Hospital is located in Oxley providing a variety of surgical and general medical services, which is owned by Ozcare.
