Brisbane’s Southern Suburbs
Why Brisbane's Southern Suburbs?
The inner pockets of Brisbane’s southern suburbs are predominantly pre-war Character or Queenslander style housing as these were some of the early established suburbs of Brisbane. As you move further south we begin to see more post war timber homes and then into the modern brick and contemporary housing as you get closer to Carindale, Mount Gravatt and Rochedale.
Brisbane’s southside is well connected via public transport with the busway running along the M1, the Brisbane Metro which will be completed in the mid 2020’s, and the cross river rail being the underground train network from Dutton Park to the CBD. There are also plenty of general buses, train transport and ferry transport from some pockets like Norman Park and Bulimba.
The premium suburbs of Brisbane’s southside are Bulimba, Hawthorne, Norman Park and Camp Hill where premium sales north of $2,000,000 are reasonable common.
Brisbane’s south is home to the port of Brisbane which is connected by the Gateway Motorway to the Brisbane Airport. The port is an extremely large employment hub and home to hundreds of businesses ranging from manufacturing to commercial to IT. Other commercial hubs on the southside are in Mount Gravatt around the Westfield Garden City Shopping Centre, Sunnybank which is home to a large Vietnamese population and Springwood/Underwood which is a large home maker area with stores like Ikea.
Demographics
There is quite a young population in the inner south in areas like Woolloongabba, Coorparoo, Bulimba, etc… as there are quite a number of units and townhouses. With good access to the CBD and less than a 10-15 minute drive by Uber, it’s not hard to see why these areas are popular with young professionals and singles looking for convenience and lifestyle.
Brisbane’s southside is home to the majority of Brisbane’s Hospitals including the Princess Alexandra Hospital (known as the PA), Mater Private Hospital, the Royal Children’s Hospital which has been ranked as the number 1 children’s hospital in Australia in 2020 and Greenslopes Private Hospital. The southside is also home to SouthBank which is located in West End and is becoming a more and more popular weekend location. It has Street’s beach which is an artificial beach, is home to restaurants, cafes, live music on the Brisbane River and plenty of other entertainment, gardens and picnic spots.
Overall Brisbane’s southern suburbs are in high demand and are continuing to see growth due to the quality schools, great transport and convenient lifestyle.
