Why Sherwood?

Sherwood, sandwiched between Graceville and Corinda, is another leafy green, well established suburb in Brisbane’s inner west. Sherwood is located approximately 11.5km from the Brisbane CBD. With just shy of 60% of the suburb being comprised of standalone houses, it is easy to see why there is a strong family community feel to the area. Similar to its neighbor, Graceville, both Honour Avenue and Oxley Road run parallel through the heart of Sherwood and it too has its own dedicated train station transporting commuters directly through to central hubs being Indooroopilly, Toowong, Auchenflower, Milton and onto the CBD. Sherwood is also home to the stunning Sherwood Forest Park based along the banks of the Brisbane River.

Demographics

With its abundance of family friendly cafes, excellent schools and easily accessible public transport, Sherwood can definitely be seen as a favourite with families in the inner west with families taking up just shy of 50% of the suburb. Another 35.8% is young working professional couples looking for the slight price break between its neighboring suburb Graceville and set up their future families in a picturesque neighborhood. As a result of these two groups take up the majority of Sherwood, the age brackets of those occupying the suburb is a fairly even split with the ages of 20-39 just pulling ahead of the rest.

Health, Education and Schooling

As mentioned, with its own dedicated train station and excellent bus routes, Sherwood is a great option for those still wanting to provide their families with an exceptional education, but happy to be slightly further out. Sherwood’s train station provides a direct route through Indooroopilly, Toowong and Auchenflower making St Peters Lutheran College, Brisbane Boys College, University of Queensland and the Wesley Hospital all within a 15 minute journey. In the opposite direction, one stop away is St Aidens Anglican Girls School for those seeking a private girls school education. The government school catchment for Sherwood is both Sherwood State School for primary and Corinda State High School for secondary.
